BRIDGES

Building Recovery of Individual Dreams and Goals through Education and Support

BRIDGES is a series of 10 classes designed and written for people diagnosed with mental illness.  It is taught by mental health consumers who have been trained as BRIDGES teachers.  The course balances basic education and skill training with hope, emotional support, and empowerment.  It is based on the belief that everyone is capable of making positive changes in life, and that people can recover (discover) full and meaningful lives.  Important topics covered in the course are:

  • Basic information about psychiatric diagnoses and medications
  • Information about how to get what we need from mental health services
  • Tools for Recovery:  building a support system, communication, assertiveness, problem-solving skills, wellness
  • Healthy spirituality
  • Advocacy:  how we can make the system work for us

BRIDGES IS FREE, FUN, AND INCLUDES FOOD

  • BRIDGES enables people with mental illness to learn together, to support each other, and to take charge of their Recovery.
  • BRIDGES classes ae held three times a year in three different locations:  Salem, Lisbon, and East Liverpool.
